“The European Day of Parks” is an international campaign to support strictly protected areas (PAs). It is aimed to draw the attention of the authorities, the media, business and society to the problems of protected areas; to provide them with practical assistance; to awaken a feeling of pride of the natural and cultural heritage.
During the “The European Day of Parks” reserves, national parks and other conservation non-governmental and educational organizations initiate and conduct roundtable discussions, press conferences, welcome days, articles in the press, radio and television broadcasting, children’s environmental activities, exhibitions, campaigns of volunteer assistance and fundraising in support of protected areas.
“The European Day of Parks – 2015” will be held from 22 to 26 April under the slogan: “Soil is a Priceless Natural Heritage.”
The United Nations declared 2015 the International Year of the Soil.
In protected areas, there remain the diversity of soils and landscapes related to them. Protected lands are a priceless and irreplaceable repository of standard undisturbed or low-disturbed soils. Taking into consideration the catastrophic rate of soil destruction and dangers associated with it, such a “collection” of soil standards is absolutely necessary for the man, their household and survival.
As part of the campaign “The European Day of Parks” the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve organizes estate maintenance works involving volunteers. Participation includes cleaning the area from dry leaves, twigs and trees as well as painting fences and demolishing ramshackle buildings.
Anyone from a preschooler to a pensioner, from an individual to an organization can become a volunteer.
