Prize named in honor of Professor N.N. Vorontsov

A new annual Prize named after professor N.N. Vorontsov for merits in the study and protection of mammals in specially protected natural territories was established. This Prize, announced by the Far Eastern Leopards Foundation, is supported by the Ministry of Ecology and Nature Protection of Russia and is a recognition of the merits of scientists in the field of mammals research and protection. It is awarded for the results of scientific research that have made a significant contribution to the development of theriology performed in specially protected natural territories of the Russian Federation.

The range of scientific developments that can be submitted for the Prize named after Professor N.N. Vorontsov is quite wide. These are studies in zoogeography, physiology, morphology, genetics, population ecology, phylogeny, taxonomy, biology and behavior of mammals, revealing significant patterns of mammalian biology, performed on the basis of analysis of materials collected in protected areas both on the basis of long-term observations and during a series of field seasons.
Authors can claim to be awarded the Prize, contributing to the development of effective methods of protecting and restoring mammal populations, researching the biology of rare and endangered species of these animals, as well as research that is the basis for creating new scientific directions or scientific schools and creating the potential for further use scientific results.

Employees of nature reserves and national parks, employees of state budget institutions of science and state educational institutions, foreign scientists carrying out research in protected areas of Russia, as well as research teams can be nominated for the Award. For consideration of materials for the Award, an Expert Commission will be created, which will include highly qualified biologists and specialists in zoological science.

From January 15 to March 15, 2019, the Far Eastern Leopards Foundation will receive documents for the 2019 Prize named after Professor N. N. Vorontsov.
