On June 19, 2017 the Prioksko-Terrasny State Nature and Biosphere Zapovednik celebrates its 72 birthday.

Our reserve was founded in 1945 soon after the victory in the Second World War, as one of five parts of Moscow State Zapovednik. Today the Prioksko-Terrasny Zapovednik is the only one, which still bears the status. In 1948 our reserve became the home for the well-known all over the world Main Wisent Breeding Center. A big part of our wisents travel to different regions of Russia and abroad for the species to recapture the old areal.

From 1979 the Prioksko-Terrasny Zapovednik has the status of a biosphere reserve, which is confirmed by a UNESCO certificate.
