Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation Sergey Donskoy to Open Memorial to the Fallen Nature Reserves Employees

On July 22, 2017 Sergey Donskoy, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, and Victor Zimin, Head of Khakassia Republic, will unveil the Commemorative Monument in Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve (Krasnoyarsk Region)

On July 22-23, 2017 Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergey Donskoy will have a working visit to Khakassia Republic to meet the Head of the Republic Victor Zimin. The visit will also include a meeting with the Association of Nature Reserves and Zapovedniks Directors, discussion of Snow Leopard Conservation Program implementation and preparations for the All-Russian Protected Areas Forum, which will take place in Sochi, Krasnodar Region, from September 28 to October 2, 2017.

An important part of the visit is consecrated to the unveiling of the Commemorative Monument in Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve. This memorial is dedicated to Russian protected areas employees, who died on duty.

This is the only memorial to protected areas employees in Russia. It includes a memorial stone with the names, a memorial cross and a bell. It is planned to install memorial plates to commemorate Tikhon Shpilenok, Director of Kronotsky Reserve, and Natalia Moraliova, President of Dersu Uzala Ecological Tourism Development Fund, who perished tragically.

The opening will take place on July 22, 2017 11:30 on Shugur post in Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve.
