Ice drift this spring began exactly one month later than in the past 2017 – April 8, there was an intensive movement of large and small ice floes.
On April 8, a pleasant sight could be observed on the Oka River near the southern border of the Prioksko-Terrasniy Reserve: under the influence of a strong current, the ice floes swiftly sweep down, seizing and carrying with them broken branches, twigs and thin trees that had fallen earlier from a strong wind.
Although spring was fast and there was a lot of snow, however, there was not much flooding and spill this year, just as in the past – it is not foreseen.
According to the Serpukhov Hydrological Observatory, the most outstanding floods in the last hundred years were observed in the years:
1947 – the river rose by 11 meters,
1970 – 12 meters,
1994 – 10 meters
1997 – 10 meters
1999 – 9 meters
2002 – 8.3 meters
2013 – 8.5 meters
2018, most likely, will not be included in this list.
