On Friday, March 3, FGBU “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” took part in interdepartmental exercises to extinguish forest fires. They were traditionally held in the village Karpova Polyana on the territory of the district forestry “Russian Forest”. The firefighting team of the FGBU “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” on a small forest patrol complex (MLPK on the basis of UAZ), as well as employees of the branch “Russian Forest” GKU MO “Mosobelles”, Podolsk branch “Russian Forest” GKU MO “Mosobelles”, SAU MO “Centerleskhoz”, GKU MO “Mosoblpozhspas” and employees of MU “ACC “Jupiter” took part in them. All assigned tasks were promptly accomplished, special vehicles and equipment for extinguishing forest fires worked in regular mode, but most importantly – the training of coordination between fire departments of different departments took place, parallel communications were created. By the beginning of the fire-hazardous season, special machinery and equipment for extinguishing forest fires will be fully prepared, everything that required repair from the last fire-hazardous season has been repaired and brought to readiness. Employees of different agencies will be able to effectively fight the fire danger together.

FGBU “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” in preparation for the fire season 2023 last week organized work to test the readiness of forces and means planned for the prevention and elimination of emergencies caused by landscape (natural) fires. District state inspectors in the field of environmental protection were trained in the program “Head and specialist of forest fire extinguishing. Organization of protection of federal specially protected natural territories from landscape fires, including the use of unmanned aircraft in forest fire suppression”. In addition, the Deputy Director for Territory Protection took part in an introductory meeting of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Moscow Region on the organization of work in the fire-hazardous period.
FGBU “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” on Tuesday, March 7 in social networks and on the website of the Institution together with the Wildlife Conservation Center announced the start of the children’s art contest “The World of Protected Nature”. As in the previous year, the contest provides one nomination – a drawing on the theme: “Inhabitants of natural ecosystems”. Young talents can choose any natural ecosystem and study its inherent flora and fauna. They can draw any natural subject. The Wildlife Conservation Center will announce the results of the contest on September 30, 2023.
On Thursday, March 9, specialists of FGBU “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” visited Lipitsky central rural house of culture. The second session of the children’s environmental education event “Reserve Day” was held for pupils of 4th and 6th grades. The children were given an informative tour of the photo exhibition devoted to the flora and fauna of the specially protected natural area. The event ended with a quiz.
Game technologies and eco-questioning
On Friday, March 10, a specialist of environmental education department of FGBU Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” visited the Practical conference “Protected areas and youth. Interaction through volunteering and game technologies”. In the course of the conference, there was a training in the technologies of educational games, as well as plenary sessions devoted to cooperation of higher and secondary educational institutions with protected areas. The greatest interest of the participants was in the testing of the games. At the organized Toy Library the participants of the conference were able to immerse themselves in the theme of author’s games created by the participants of the conference.
“Watercolor Biodiversity” – this was the title of the exhibition of works by Ilya Murashev, zoologist and employee of the science department of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve”, which opened last Friday. The exhibition was opened by a meeting with the author and a conversation about modern biological and naturalistic illustration. The exhibition runs until March 25 in the House of Scientists in Pushchino.
On Monday, March 13, Vasily Demidov, Deputy Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” was invited to the jury as an expert to summarize the results of the municipal stage of the regional competition “Eco-theater of the Moscow Region”. 9 video clips were presented, each of them not more than 15 minutes long. The competent jury evaluated the theatrical productions according to the following criteria: scenographic solution, musical design, originality of creative solution, artistic level of performance, entertainment and theatricality. Vasily Demidov monitored the accurate reflection of the ecological theme in the performances. The works that took the 1st place in each of the 3 nominations were sent to participate in the regional competition. Summarizing the results and awarding ceremony will be held in May 2023.
On Thursday, March 16, a regular meeting of specialists from the environmental education department of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” with students of Lipitsky school took place. The educational project “Reserve Days” is realized on the basis of Lipitsky CSDK. Every Thursday in March, students of Lipitsky school make an excursion to the photo gallery “4 Seasons of the Reserved Forest”, which presents the best pictures taken on the territory of the unique natural monument of the Moscow region. This time the excursion for fifth-graders was conducted by the author of most of the photos, leading environmental education specialist Olga Kalinina. The schoolchildren received original souvenirs in memory of the “Preserved Day”. At the end of the event, the children gave juicy treats for the bison.
Take action: how to help protected areas
On Saturday, March 18, FGBU “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” took part in the festival “Pristvazdannaya Rossiya”. Within the framework of the thematic day “Act: how to help protected areas” Deputy Director for Environmental Education, Development and Tourism Natalia Shpilenok and chief specialist in environmental education Irina Pushkova presented a report on “Prospects for the development of volunteerism in protected areas”, and leading specialist in environmental education Olga Kalinina for young guests of the festival held master classes.
On Monday, March 20, the results of the municipal competition for the best photo reportage “Guests of the Bird Canteen”, held within the framework of the All-Russian environmental and cultural campaign “Feed the Birds”, were summed up in the Extracurricular Activities Center. Olga Kalinina, a leading specialist in environmental education of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” was invited to be on the jury of the contest. The purpose of the contest: attracting attention to the problems of environmental protection and involving the younger generation in environmental activities, environmental education and upbringing of children. Contest participants: students of pre-school institutions and pre-school departments of schools of Serpukhov city district. 17 creative reports were submitted for the contest.

On Thursday, March 23, an unusual delegation – 25 employees of cultural institutions of the Serpukhov urban district – arrived at the Central Estate of the Reserve. With such a proper, cultural and informative event our colleagues decided to celebrate their professional holiday – Culture Workers’ Day, which fell on Saturday, March 25. Specialists of the Environmental Education Department conducted an in-depth excursion to the Central Bison Nursery and the Museum of Nature. We are sure that the three-hour walk in the fresh air allowed the guests to relax and get inspired. The excursion along the ecological trail “The Road to the Bison” was a free gift from the reserve.
The program “Live Food” in the reserve
On March 23, the only reserve in the Moscow region was visited by a film crew of a federal TV channel. This time the directorate of the scientific and culinary project “Live Food” of the NTV TV company showed interest in the reserve. The visit of the TV crew was connected with the theme of the new program. About badger fat and badger-junks: their biology, number and inadmissibility of hunting – said in an interview Deputy Director for scientific work FGBU “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” Vasily Demidov. The program is scheduled to air on June 3.
On Thursday, March 23, the final meeting of specialists of the department of environmental education of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” with students of Lipitsky school took place. The educational project “Reserve Days” was realized on the basis of Lipitsky CSDK. Every Thursday during March, the Lipitsky school students met with the Reserve’s specialists, who conducted excursions through the photo gallery “4 Seasons of the Reserved Forest”, told them about the Reserve and the animals and plants living there.
On Friday, March 24 in the walls of the Central City Library named after A.P. Chekhov hosted the next session of the “School of Protected Friends”. The class for students of the State Budgetary Educational Institution “Serpukhov College” specializing in “Tourism” was held by Irina Pushkova, the chief specialist in environmental education of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve”, who presented a presentation on the organization of volunteer activities on the territory of the reserve. At the end of the series of lectures this spring, the students will have a graduation in the reserve, within the framework of which the reserve friends will take part in the volunteer day, visit the Central Bison Nursery and get acquainted with the tourist facilities of the reserve.
Transportation problems arose at the end of last week at the entrance to Danki, where the Central Estate of the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve is located. Due to active snow melt and heavy rains, a small stream flowing into the Suska River overflowed its banks and flooded the embankment with the roadway. The water has already subsided, but the damaged roadbed requires repair, so the movement of vehicles is limited. We suggest that all visitors to the reserve take a detour through the Privetlivoye countryside.
