Chronicle of news.
The long-awaited summer entered the reserve with wonderful weather, with one of the most touching holidays – International Children’s Day. Feathered neighbors helped the workers of the reserve celebrate this holiday, which is celebrated on June 1. In early May, a jay nest was made right on one of the sites of the high-altitude ecological trail “Through the foliage”. Through the camera lens, one could observe the life of chicks and their parents, admire the joy of a new life in the first summer days. And in the bison nursery at the beginning of summer, it has its own concern – young bison grow up. Nursery workers remind that young bison are waiting for their patrons under the “Adopt a Bison” program.
The main event in June 2020 for our reserve is its 75th birthday. The Prioksko-Terrasny Natural Biosphere Reserve has been keeping the island of untouched nature for 75 years, in the mighty forest on the left bank of the Oka, the silence is broken only by the singing of birds, rustling of leaves, and the murmur of rivers. Now the Prioksko-Terrasny reserve is the only one in the Moscow region. In 1978, the reserve was one of the first in the USSR to be included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves. Throughout its history, the reserve has carried out various scientific research, many of which are model for the reserve system of Russia. In 2018, the legendary Central Bison Nursery celebrated its 70th anniversary. Our work is the preservation of our nature, environmental education, ecological educational tourism, volunteer projects.
The anniversary date itself is celebrated on June 19. But this day was preceded by several very important events in June 2020. On the eve of World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Elena Panova and Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Physical Culture and Sports , tourism and youth affairs Vyacheslav Fetisov. They announced the symbolic start of the opening of the ecological tourism season in Russia and the “Route is built” project. Reserves and national parks have prepared an exciting visitation program for tourists for the project. When the restrictions caused by the covid-19 pandemic are lifted, they will open to hundreds of guests from across the country. And you can hear about the tourist sites of the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve and take part in the drawing of certificates for their visit in June 2020 in the morning show “Russian Peppers” on “Russian Radio”.
The guests of the reserve walked the suspended ecological path “Through the foliage”, looked into the enclosures to the bison and buffalo. In honor of the memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War, Elena Panova, Vyacheslav Fetisov and other guests of the reserve planted 6 young trees in the Central bison nursery – these are the first trees of the future grove – our “Garden of Memory”. The ecological-patriotic action “Garden of Memory” started in Crimea on March 18, 2020. It was attended by many people not only in our country, but also in 49 foreign countries. The action takes place within the framework of the national project “Ecology”. The 27 million planted trees will become the embodiment of the memory of those killed during the Great Patriotic War.
“We are glad to join such a significant action, – said director of the Prioksko-Terrasny reserve Svetlana Rodionova. – Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve was formed immediately after the Great Patriotic War – June 19, 1945. Many of those who saved the world from fascism, immediately after the Great Victory, again chose the fate of the defender, guardian of their native land, native nature. This garden is dedicated to 34 veterans – workers of our reserve”.
Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve was created in 1945 – the year of the Great Victory over fascism. At that difficult time for the country, the task of preserving a unique corner of the Moscow region turned out to be no less important than the restoration of a peaceful life! There were many front-line soldiers among its first employees. Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve is proud of its workers – war and labor veterans. And on the eve of the 75th anniversary of the reserve, our fellow retirees – bison-breeders, accountants, chauffeurs, foresters, cordon rangers received gifts. Veterans – honored employees of the reserve were happy about such a surprise, shared their memories of their work and were interested in the current state of the reserve.
Another gift to the reserve for the anniversary was the wonderful children’s drawings sent to the children’s art competition “The World of Wildlife”. This year we received 360 very interesting works from all over the country and even 2 drawings from Germany! The reserve staff summed up the results of the competition and congratulated the winners. The best works of children will be used in exhibitions, printed materials and public service announcements.
On its 75th birthday, the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve has launched an unusual campaign throughout Russia: garbage collection in recreation areas. The promotion is valid for two months. The organizers will follow the work of volunteers across the country. The most active participants will receive gifts from the reserve, and the winner will be given the right to name a bison cub, which was born in the Prioksko-Terrasny reserve.
June 2020 has become a month of anniversary gifts for our reserve. The Moscow Region Tourism Committee has compiled a rating of the most interesting short walking routes in the region. High-altitude eco-trail “Through the foliage” was included in the five best routes for walking. It runs at a height of about 8 meters and is a series of bridges, crossings, connected by observation platforms. Among the crowns of trees, everyone can feel like a real explorer-naturalist, enjoy the forest “from the inside” and see the details that cannot be noticed from the ground. With the help of interactive stands, visitors will be able to hear the voices of birds living here, breathe in the scents of the forest and feel like a part of nature.
And the editorial staff of the CHIPS Journal chose the most interesting places in the Moscow region – with rare animals, unusual mechanisms, delicious food or outstanding architecture that should definitely be shown to children. Our reserve was included in the rating of the best places in the Moscow region that are worth visiting with children.
And finally – in the last decade of June, the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve resumed its work after a three-month quarantine break! All employees were looking forward to this moment, responding to dozens of messages about the opening dates on social networks every day. And now the separation is over: we know that you missed. The workers of the reserve and bison with bison were just as bored.
“Respect for nature is instilled from childhood, – said the director of the reserve Svetlana Rodionova. – For the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve, environmental education work with children is one of the highest priorities. The reserve’s specialists are constantly working both with their closest neighbors – schools and children’s circles of the region, and with all the young guests who come to the reserve on excursions. The fact that our reserve is recommended to visit with children is a great joy for all employees and confirmation of the correct course of development”.
