Works on improvement and modernization of the infrastructure of the Central Bison Nursery continue! KhRO “Russian Geographical Society” provided financial support for the realization of the project of restoration and preservation of biodiversity of Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve, within the framework of which the structural elements of the inner fence of the Central Bison Nursery will be repaired. Soon the bison kept in semi-voluntary habitat will have three modern retractable feeders on ro-likes and one feeder for hay. At the same time, the feeding module with the possibility to lay hay from the service area at any time of the year will be protected from precipitation by a reliable canopy. Construction materials are currently being procured and the site is being prepared.
On Saturday, August 5, Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve hosted a delegation of postcrossers. For those who don’t know, postcrossers are people who exchange postcards all over the world. Each postcrosser has his or her own postmark, which is used in conjunction with the post office to extinguish the stamp. Passionate people came to the reserve to see Bison and Bison with their own eyes, to be inspired by the power and beauty of ancient bulls, to be inspired by the story of their rescue and to sign postcards specially issued for this purpose. We would like to express our admiration for the original hobby and thank each participant of the Saturday action for their contribution to the popularization of the Reserve and the inhabitants of the Central Bison Nursery.
World Day of Environmental Duty
FGBU “Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve” joins this initiative and announces an environmental campaign “Hand in waste paper – save a tree!”. It is very easy to take part in the action, you need to collect unnecessary paper, put it in stacks and tie it with twine. Then bring it to Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve until August 31. All participants will receive souvenirs, and the most active will receive a prize from the reserve.
Simple about complicated things
The Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve held another training session for guides. The topic of the “field lesson” was the work of the complex monitoring station and it was traditionally conducted by Vera Ableyeva. The station has been functioning in the reserve since 1983, and from the very moment of its organization it has been carrying out complex scientific research and ecological monitoring, a system of permanent sample areas, accounting routes and profiles, snow-measuring lines, phenological routes. Here, daily measurements of the content of various pollutants in natural environments and components of protected ecosystems are made: air, precipitation, soil, surface water and vegetation. The station of complex background monitoring is usually visited only by specialized specialists, but our guides are versatile people and they are interested in all scientific research conducted in the reserve.
Youth Council of the Moslesproekt branch of FGBU Roslesinforg
On the hot afternoon of August 16, a group of volunteers from the Council helped to improve the territory of the 40th cordon of the reserve. After several hours of hard work, the volunteers had an appetizing meal and moved to the northern part of the reserve to get acquainted with the inhabitants of the Central Bison Nursery. Council Chairman Anton Vishnevsky remarked upon their return: “It was a day full of discoveries and amazing encounters. Our work here not only helped us to better understand the importance of nature reserves, but also emphasized the importance of each of us in preserving the natural heritage of our country. We will continue to help the reserves and support their work in every possible way.
Last weekend the staff of Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve visited the Voronezh Reserve to take part in the celebration dedicated to the 100th anniversary of this amazing specially protected natural area. Our colleagues prepared a large-scale event called “Bobry Evening” with an interesting and rich program. The guests were waited for: a musical concert, a lottery, planting of saplings from a 421-year-old oak tree, informative activities and much more! Ecological-educational and creative master classes were held all Saturday. Specialists of Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve were busy without rest and breaks: children and adults learned to recognize animal tracks, taking part in the master class “Any animal’s footprints”, put together huge floor puzzles and solved ecological crossword puzzles. At this holiday, the Zubr rosta doll found new friends – together with it the guests were amused and participated in selfies with “Deer”, “Beaver”, “Elk” and “Vykhukhul”. It was loud, fun and interesting! Congratulations to our colleagues from the Voronezh Nature Reserve on a significant date – the 100th anniversary!
How the bison met the “golden peacock”
Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve supported a sports event of regional scale. On August 19 and 20, Serpukhov hosted the fourth start of a series of track and field races, which is implemented as part of the project “Pod-Moscow Super League”. At the event “Golden Peacock” participants ran 5, 10 or 21.1 km. There were also organized children’s starts at 300 and 600 meters for age groups from 4 to 11 years inclusive. After the race everyone could go to explore the sights of Serpukhov. The Prioksko-Terrasny Zapovednik prepared memorable souvenirs – soft bison toys and branded badges, as well as excursions along the ecological trail “The Road to the Bison”.
The Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve organized informative excursions to the ecological trail “The Road to Bison” for the families of participants of the special military operation from Serpukhov.
Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve conducted informative excursions along the ecological trail “The Road to Bison” for families of participants of the special military operation from Serpukhov. The purpose of the event was to familiarize children and adults with the wildlife of the Southern Moscow region and the inhabitants of the Central Bison Nursery, to show the last wild bulls of Europe bison in conditions maximally close to the natural habitat. Documentary series “Zapovednoe”
On August 26, one of the episodes of the documentary series “Zapovednoe” was filmed on the territory of the reserve, which is conducted by the “First Public Eco-Logic TV Channel”. The series tells about the natural riches of Russia – unique reserves and national parks. The project will consist of 12 episodes, each of which is dedicated to one of the specially protected natural areas and tells about the unique nature of this place and its inhabitants, as well as about the cultural and historical attractions of this region.
On August 24 and 29, the children’s TV channel “Karusel” broadcast two issues of the pro-program “Navigator. News” program dedicated to the tourist sites of the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve. The main characters of the program were young tourists who visited the excursion “Road to the teeth” and bravely overcame all the obstacles in the ecological park “Tree House” and the ecological trail “Through the leaves”. If suddenly your child does not want to participate in a family weekend trip to the Moscow region, be sure to show him the issues of the program “Navigator” №904 and №906, then he 100% will want to repeat everything that is shown there.
On Friday, August 25, the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve hosted a team of corporate volunteers from VTB Bank. The event was organized and coordinated by our good friends from the Ecocenter “Zapovedniki”. The day was almost minute-by-minute, as is customary for employees of the banking sector! The work on painting the fences of the Central Bison Nursery went cheerfully and almost calmly, even despite the appearance of very unfriendly bison – female Mukol and bull Memuvin. The administration of Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve expresses its deep gratitude to the employees of VTB Bank and the wonderful organizers of the Zapovedniki Eco-Center for their help.
