On July 16, 2019, the Agreement on promoting the sustainable development of the Prioksko-Terrasny Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO and the creation of a territory of cooperation was updated.
This agreement defines the boundaries of the Collaboration Area of the Prioksko-Terrasny Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO and the organization of activities of the biosphere administration body — the Coordinating Council for the activities of the Prioksko-Terrasny Biosphere Reserve.
The need to update this agreement is associated with the reorganization of the governance structure in the Moscow region. In 2016, in order to implement the decisions of the Seville Strategy (1995) and the Madrid (2008) action plan for biosphere reserves of the FSBI Prioksko-Terrasny State Reserve, the Administration of Serpukhov District and the Administration of Pushchino concluded this agreement. But since a new administrative unit was created — the Serpukhov urban district of the Moscow region, it was necessary to consolidate the participation of the administration of the city of Serpukhov in the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere program.
The head of the Administration of the city district Serpukhov Dmitry Zharikov understood with understanding the need for cooperation for the sustainable development of the biosphere reserve and the signing of this agreement to establish a regulatory framework for cooperation. The work of the Coordinating Council of the Biosphere Reserve will continue with new representatives from the administration of the Serpukhov urban district in September this year. The permanent chairman of the Coordinating Council of the Biosphere Reserve Mikhail Brynsky hopes that participants in the UNESCO program — the biosphere urban districts of Serpukhov and Pushchino, will actively participate in solving environmental issues of our time.
