In the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve, the 132nd annotated list of vascular plants was published (second edition).
The publication includes species that grow on the territory of the Prioksko-Terrasny State Natural Biosphere Reserve and in its protected zone. The modern flora in the reserve within the protection zone includes 991 species of vascular plants (103 families), of which 913 species are found in the reserve. The data on 26 species found after the last inventory in 2004 are given.
The main types of trees are: pine, spruce, linden, oak, birch, aspen. Forests, consisting mainly of these tree species, occupy about 93% of the reserve, or 4598 ha. On sphagnum bogs, cranberries, blueberries, sundews, аndrоmeda, and сomarum grow.
Of particular value are the plant communities of the south of the reserve, the species composition of which was called the Oka flora, discovered in 1861 by Professor N. N. Kaufman of Moscow University. Since 1923, the Oka flora was studied by the outstanding researcher of the flora of Central Russia P. A. Smirnov, who in 1958 published the monograph Flora of the Prioksko-Terrasny State Nature Reserve.
The Okskaya Flora is fragments of a meadow steppe and steppe meadows located on sections of the Oka high floodplain and on the first floodplain terrace along the edges of dry steppe forests and in places under their canopy. In total, about 50 species of higher plants grow here, which are characteristic of communities of northern varieties of meadow steppes.
Among them: Stípa pennáta, Festúca valesiáca, Biberstein tulip, Sēseli ānnuum, Geranium sanguineum, Fritillária ruthénica, Prúnus fruticósa and many others.
