On August 14, 2018, the 1st International Phenological Seminar 2018 “Chronicle of the Nature of Russia: Phenology” continued its work in the Central Forest State Reserve.
The second day of the seminar began with a report by Deputy Director for Science of the Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve Yuri Buivolov. The theme of the report is “Species Specificity of Phenological Changes in Vascular Plants on the Example of Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve.”
The participants of the seminar made interesting reports on honey and methods of conducting phenological observations based on molecular analysis of honey. During a short break, the guests were offered a tasting of honey.
During the second day of the work the school-seminar changed the format of the presentation: from the reports, they went on to discuss the issues with specialists. The issues of interaction and cooperation between climatologists and phenologists were discussed. In the second half of the day, the guests were invited to take a phenological excursion with the specialists of the reserve to the bog “Staroselsky moss”.
The extensive marshes in the Central Forest Reserve are impressive. Open spaces overgrown with sphagnum, along which a narrow flooring of planks is laid. Step past such a flooring, and you are already ankle-deep in the water, and stand as if on a sponge.
In the marshes the participants of the conference passed more than 6 km and enjoyed the views of the open spaces of these bogs for more than 5 hours. In the evening at dinner, the participants of the excursion, a little tired of such a pleasant pastime, animatedly and with interest exchanged impressions of what they saw.
